Rotec Hydraulics Ltd is proud to announce they will once again be supporting Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal, the official Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity, this Christmas.

Following a successful campaign in 2021, the ‘Shine Bright for Bristol Children’s Hospital’ display is back bigger and better this year, with much loved Gromit Unleashed characters and seasonal stars set to adorn the walls of the hospital building in central Bristol.

The dazzling design will feature some of Aardman’s most iconic characters – from Gromit to Shaun the Sheep and Feathers McGraw, as well as small, medium and large illuminated stars.

Launching on Thursday 1st December, the lights will be switched on at dusk every day for all to see throughout December, providing a spectacular festive light display for patients and their families as well as hospital staff, visitors, and everyone passing the iconic children’s hospital building in Bristol.

Managing Director of Rotec Hydraulics, Paul Prouse comments,

“It is always a pleasure to support the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity, The Grand Appeal.  The hospital team go over and above to support and care for children and their families every year and show remarkable dedication, providing life-saving treatment and support to children and families across the South West and even nationally.

“Now in our 9th year of supporting The Grand Appeal, we are pleased to once again help illuminate the Hospital with a special Christmas light display, which will hopefully bring a smile to the children and their families.”

The money raised from the campaign will support The Grand Appeal’s three family accommodation houses, music, arts and play therapy at Christmas and beyond, as well as a range of pioneering equipment to help save the lives of the young patients at the hospital.

Helen Haskell, Head of Fundraising (Corporate) at The Grand Appeal said,

“Christmas is a magical time of year – a time for giving and sharing special moments with those you love. No one expects to spend Christmas in a hospital, but sadly this will be the reality for many babies and children this year. As the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity, our ‘Shine Bright for Bristol Children’s Hospital’ campaign brings some festive Christmas cheer to patients and their families, at a time when they need it most.”

Bristol Children’s Hospital cares for over 100,000 babies, children and young adults from across the South West annually and supports patients with rare genetic disorders, neurological conditions, congenital heart disease, traumatic injuries, cancer and kidney disease. Everyone can get involved with the campaign by spreading cheer in their community and decorating their house, window or garden. Rotec team signs up to Santa Abseil challenge in support of St Margaret’s Hospice Care

It may be too early to mention the festive season, but St Margaret’s Hospice Care is gearing up for Christmas already with the launch of its new fundraising event – Santa Abseil.

Sponsored by Rotec Hydraulics Ltd, volunteer fundraisers will abseil a 60ft drop at Cheddar Gorge, one of Britain’s most spectacular natural landmarks, all while dressed as Santa!

Never one to walk away from a challenge, six Rotec employees will be taking on the challenge on Saturday 3rd December at 12.30pm.

The team, consisting of Stroud Branch Manager, Dale Lockart, Quality Manager, Josie Chamberlain, Marketing Manager, Rachel Worth, Design Engineer, Isaac Anderson, Production Stock Control Manager, Glyn Cattle and Sales Office Manager, Alex Pounde have all volunteered and, as part of the challenge, have pledged to raise a minimum of £125 each to support the charity’s vital work.

Last year St Margaret’s Hospice Care supported more than 5,000 people. This care is provided because of fundraising events like the Santa Abseil, with supporters raising thousands of pounds to help provide care across Somerset.

£125 sponsorship could pay for a specialist Community Nurse visit for one of the hospice’s local patients being cared for at home and an hour’s support to one of St Margaret’s patients at home by one of their Adviceline nurses.

Paul Prouse, Managing Director of Rotec Hydraulics Ltd said:

“It is our great pleasure to support the hospice by sponsoring their Santa Abseil. The vital work they do to help patients with life-limiting illnesses, together with their families and carers is remarkable.”

Rachel Worth, Marketing Manager commented:

“All members of the Rotec Santa Abseil team are excited and pleased, albeit a little nervous, to take part in the Santa Abseil challenge.

“We wish to say thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Every penny will help this great cause to continue to deliver essential support to those living with a life-limiting illness and their loved ones.”

The hospice is hoping participants will raise enough to pay for a weeks’ worth of community visits across Somerset. Around a hundred visits each week are made by one of the five community teams and are a vital part of the care and support offered to patients and their families.

Rotec helps Bristol Dragons Powerchair Football Club

Rotec recently had the pleasure of supporting Bristol Powerchair Football team, the Bristol Dragons at the Bristol Ignite Festival 2022.

Powerchair Football is the fastest growing disability team sport, which enables severely disabled people to play football using electric powerchairs.

Ignite Bristol is a movement to get more Disabled people active in Bristol. The festival provides the perfect place to showcase inclusive activities, such as powerchair football, and allow attendees to benefit from participating and creating a new network of friends, clubs and organisations.

The event is particularly important as Disabled people are half as likely to be active as non-disabled people.

Rotec helped Bristol Dragons PFC attend the Bristol Ignite Festival by transporting their electric powerchairs to site. Once they arrived at the event, the players had a chance to show off powerchair football to everyone who then could have a go and try it. All the Bristol Dragons PFC players and coaches had a great day and overcame the hot weather to play and demonstrate what a great sport powerchair football can be.

Bristol Powerchair Football Club (PFC) was formed back in 2016, with help of the Bristol Rovers Community Trust, the GFA and Goals Beyond Grass. To find out more, visit Bristol PFC – Goals Beyond Grass.

Rotec Pledges to Become Net Zero

Businesses taking action to reduce their carbon footprint is critically important in achieving the UK’s goals to tackle climate change by 2050, from cutting emissions in their supply chains to opting for sustainable business practices.

We are proud to announce Rotec has committed to becoming a net zero business by pledging to half its carbon emissions by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2040.

A recent ‘Carbon Footprint Assessment’ identified the main sources of our carbon emissions and has ensured necessary management frameworks, processes and systems for decreasing the company’s carbon footprint are data-driven and have measurable targets. We have also recently received our FNZ Standard – a benchmark and progress recording and monitoring tool, which is verified and audited by future Net Zero.

To achieve net zero by 2040, Rotec will first focus on reducing emissions caused in-house and by their supply chain to the lowest possible level. Any emissions that cannot be eliminated will need to be offset through schemes that remove carbon from the atmosphere.

All of our service centres, based throughout the South West of the UK, have already taken a number of steps towards our net zero goal, and will continue to take future action in the coming years; continuously looking for new ways to become more sustainably responsible and ultimately carbon neutral.

Paul Prouse, Rotec’s Managing Director, commented,

“We are pleased to announce our environmental commitment to achieve net zero by 2040. Reducing Rotec’s carbon footprint is embedded within our business strategy.

“As part of being an environmentally responsible company, we are committed to supporting our customers to become more sustainable by designing and offering more energy-efficient and eco-friendly engineering solutions.”
